The Differences of OEM and Aftermarket Auto Glass

An OEM windshield is identical to the original, factory installed windshield that came with your car when it was new. OEM windshields may not be manufactured by the company who made the windshield originally installed on your car, but they are identical in almost every way.
OEM glass is manufactured according to the car maker’s specific regulations, and match the original in size, shape, color, thickness and durability.  OEM windshields are certified by the Department of Transportation, assuring their safety.

Aftermarket glass is manufactured by auto glass companies who don’t necessarily contract with specific auto makers. Since these companies are not manufacturing OEM windshields under contract for the auto manufacturer, they don’t have to abide by specific manufacturer guidelines.

The size and shape of aftermarket glass will have to be identical to OEM, because otherwise the glass would not fit into your vehicle. However, the thickness and durability may be different, and the color of the tint may vary slightly as well.

Pride Auto Glass uses OEM glass and parts with every windshield, door glass and back glass we replace as long as that OEM part is available. Call 623-594-4388 for professional windshield and auto glass replacement in the metro Phoenix west Valley!
